In order to enter a mine site, workers are required to comply with either MSHA Part 48 or Part 46 Training Requirements.Safety Assessment Services Approved Part 48 and Part 46 safety training courses give you the flexibility to train employees anywhere, anytime, with peace of mind of fully complying with MSHA Requirements.
SAS can conduct New Miner and Annual Refresher Training in English or Spanish that meets the requirements listed under 30CFR Parts 46 and 48. Training under 30CFR Part 47 can also be included in these classes. Training under Part 48 can be done using your own MSHA approved training plan or under SAS’s approved training plan. Mines or Mining Contractors training under the provisions Part 46 must have their own training plan but SAS will happy to assist your organization developing a plan that will comply with the provisions of Part 46. Of course, we will also assist Part 48 mines in establishing a plan that will be approved by MSHA. Regardless of the number of personnel requiring training, SAS will assist you in getting it done either at a location of your choosing, at one of our sessions open to the public or in cooperation with other mining organizations near you.
MSHA Part 46 regulations require that new miners, or first time workers, complete a minimum of 24 hours of MSHA training within their first 90 days of employment, 4 hours of which must be completed prior to beginning work at the mine. Part 46 applies to shell dredging, sand, gravel, surface stone, surface clay, colloidal phosphate, and surface limestone mines. If your work is in other MSHA regulated operations or you are an independent contractor that operates in other types of mining operations, you may be required to complete Part 48 training instead. Safety Assessment Services offers MSHA Part 46 New Miner Training with 8 hours of training created to meet 30 CFR 46.5 requirements, an additional 16 hours of task specific supplemental training is required to complete the 24-Hours of New Miner Training requirement. This comprehensive certification is conveniently available to workers, from miners to contractors, needing to access a mine site and work safely.
This training would be based upon your Part 46 Training Plan that you have added Safety Assessment Services to. If you don't have a Part 46 Training Plan we can write a customized Training Plan for you.
When all 24-Hours are completed, your training certificate will need to be certified & signed by the person in your company responsible for mine safety and health training. This person is listed in your company's training plan.

This Training Course is for miners & contractors to recognize and understand the required elements of their company’s written hazard communication program, including how to identify and evaluate chemical hazards using the GHS international classification of chemical hazards, label elements, and Safety Data Sheets. This training is included in all of our New Miner Training courses.
At the completion of the course you will receive a certification showing you have been trained on Part 47 Hazard Communication.
This Training Course is for miners & contractors to recognize and understand the required elements of their company’s written Hearing Conservation Program. This training is included in all of our New Miner Training courses.
At the completion of the course you will receive a certification showing you have been trained on Part 62 Hearing Conservation.
This course is intended to confirm and/or to improve the instructional skills, abilities,and knowledge of persons who already are or wishing to become MSHA Approved Instructors.
Approval as a MSHA 30CFR Part 48 instructor is a two-part process.
(1)You must demonstrate that you have knowledge of the subjects that you will be teaching. This is generally accomplished by preparing both a formal application and a resume of your mining/instructor experience which will be to submitted to your MSHA Regional District manager.
(2)You must demonstrate that you have the ability to teach. To meet this requirement and to successfully complete this course, each student must participate in at least 90% of the course of instruction and conduct a 15 minute micro-teaching session to be given in class, on a safety or work-related subject associated with the Part 48 mandatory topics listed in 30CFR. This micro-teaching session will be videotaped and critiqued with the student.
Upon successful completion of the course, A certificate of completion along with your application and resume will be submitted to your MSHA Regional District Manager. In all cases, the District Manager has final authority for approving the requests for becoming an MSHA Approved Instructor.

The focus of the Phase 1 Course is to achieve a better understanding of the nature of the supervisory management process and the different expectations held by others in the organization towards that supervisory manager based on their own positions within that organization.
Structured discussions, group exercises and case studies are used to convey the material to students.
The course also addresses common issues faced by supervisory managers such as motivation, morale, commitment, ethics, and change.
Finally, the Phase 1 course concludes by discussing different ways the individual can achieve increased productivity and reduce waste. Also the student will gain a better understanding of the impact of turnover and change within the organization and its effect on supervisory managers' performance.
The focus of the Phase 2 Course is to achieve a better appreciation and understanding of of the administrative functions and responsibilities of a supervisory manager.
This work shop also uses discussions, group exercises, and case studies as learning tools.
The Phase 2 course concludes by developing practical ways to implement the principles covered in this course.
This course is intended to improve the knowledge and understanding of The Final Rule of Workplace Exams Standard 56.18002.
At the completion of the course you will receive a certification showing you have been trained on the rules of Workplace Examinations.
Final Rule Examination of Working Places 56.18002 Requires
(A) A competent person designated by the operator shall examine each working place at least once each shift before work begins or as miners begin work in that place, for conditions that may adversely affect safety or health.
(a)(1) The operator shall promptly notify miners in any affected areas of any conditions found that may adversely affect safety or health and promptly initiate appropriate action to correct such conditions.
(a)(2) Conditions noted by the person conducting the examination that may present an imminent danger shall be brought to the immediate attention of the operator who shall withdraw all persons from the area affected (except persons referred to in section 104(c) of the Federal Mine Safety and Health Act of 1977) until the danger is abated.
(B) A record of each examination shall be made before the end of the shift for which the examination was conducted. The record shall contain the name of the person conducting the examination; date of the examination; location of all areas examined; and description of each condition found that may adversely affect the safety or health of miners and is not corrected promptly.
(C) When a condition that may adversely affect safety or health is not corrected promptly, the examination record shall include, or be supplemented to include, the date of the corrective action.
(D) The operator shall maintain the examination records for at least one year, make the records available for inspection by authorized representatives of the Secretary and the representatives of miners, and provide these representatives a copy on request.
